GM Recalls 40,000 Chevrolet Corvettes for Steering Column Issue

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, General Motors has recalled over 40,000 Chevrolet Corvettes from model years 2005 and 2006 that have a tilt and telescoping steering column.

NHTSA explains that the repeated movement of the steering column may result into a signal interruption within the column. The action will thus illuminate the message “Service active handling System.” In rare instances, the malfunctioning may result in actuating one or more of the brakes and pull the Corvette to the right or left. Inability of the driver to take control of his vehicle may result into a fatal accident.

The steering wheel columns of the affected Chevrolet Corvette vehicles will be repaired by the GM dealers for free. The safety recall has already begun. The owners may contact Chevrolet at 800-630-2438 or GMC at 866-996-9463. They may also contact NHTSA’s vehicle safety hot line at 888-327-4236.

If you have steering column problems three or more times during your original or extended manufacturers warranty, you have rights and it is important to look into them to determine the remedies you are entitled to. GM Recalls 2010 Cadillac DTS

General Motors recently announced that its 2010 Cadillac DTS is the subject of a new safety recall in the United States, after the company discovered that 126 units fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard no. 110 – “Tire selection and rims”.

According to an official recall notification posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, “the tire and loading information label, which lists the proper tire and vehicle loading information, was not installed on the vehicle. In addition, there are two labels affixed to affected vehicles that incorrectly describe them as an incomplete vehicle.”

“One label is the vehicle certification label, which certifies that the vehicle conforms to all applicable US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety, bumper and theft prevention standards,” it is mentioned in the advisory. “The second label is the service parts identification label, which lists various components used in the manufacturing of the vehicle.”

Obviously, such a safety glitch doesn’t have too serious consequences over an affected vehicle but still, it can mislead the driver when trying to set the appropriate tire pressure.

“Driving the vehicle with tires that are not properly inflated could result in the tire overloading, premature or irregular wear, and/or poor handling increasing the risk of a crash,” GM warned in the NHTSA notification.

Contrary to regular recalls, GM won’t inspect the affected models but instead, it will mail the three correct labels to owners along with an installation manual. In case this proves to be a too difficult task, you can always take the vehicle and the labels to any official dealer and get them installed at no charge.

GM Recalls Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, Saturn Ion Due to Fire Hazard

General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for the following models:

  • 2006-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt’s
  • 2007 Pontiac G5′s
  • 2006-2007 Saturn Ion

NHTSA says in its alert: “General Motors is recalling certain model year 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt and Saturn Ion vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of Arizona and Nevada; and model year 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5 and Saturn Ion vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada and Texas.

The plastic supply or return port on the modular reservoir assembly may crack. If either of these ports develops a crack, fuel will leak from the area. If the crack becomes large enough, fuel may be observed dripping onto the ground and vehicle performance may be affected.”

General Motors has provided phone numbers for consumers to call if they have additional questions or concerns. Chevrolet owners can call 800-630-2438; Saturn owners can call 800-972-8876; and Pontiac owners can call 800-620-7668. Or, owners of the affected vehicles can log on to www.gmownercenter.com for additional information.
